I'm a travellin' man...

Just back from a short driving holiday around the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. I’m always inclined to take pix of tumble-down farm buildings, old houses, derelict churches, etc. along the way. This post is NOT intended to be in the “Where do you live” Thread!

Also went past the quaintly named ‘Poverty Creek’, but didn’t get a pic. Pity – it occurred that it may have been named after a BMW owner!

Ferry across the mighty Clarence River at the tiny village of Lawrence (no relation) is cable operated 24/ 7, and free. Access on that very slippery steel ramp would be dodgy on a bike if wet (I have done it, and lived to tell the tale).

And finally, my faithful travelling companion, Honey of Suburbia.

I find its a little harder to stop when in a car, as opposed to a motorbike, and take photos Lawrence.
A travelling man with so few words.

Do find riding a motorbike, engages the brain in a creative way.

Looks very green over your way right now, and at least those derelict buildings were not housing people.

I'm quite partial to photographing old buildings too. Although I tend to see good ones when I don't have my camera with me.

Scott - 1978 model with country miles.

2008 R1200R - Remus powercone muffler, sports screen, BMW panniers, Cyclops Long Range LED lights, SW-motech crash bars, Ilmberger carbon hugger.

If God doesn't ride a BMW, then why is the sky blue and white?

That's what phones are for - I take more photos with mine than make calls.

I find this 'using-a-phone-to-take-a-photograph' thing quite weird. I'm waiting for the day when I hear someone say - "ooh, gotta make a phone call - where's me camera".

Me too, but my phone doesn't capture things quite the way my DSLR does. I can adjust the way my camera takes photos to highlight certain things.

For example, this off my phone is a bit washed out and nothing really stands out.

vs this off my DSLR where the background is out of focus and the bike is shown with a bit of depth to it.

Indeed, Doc. Horses for courses, of course, but the DSLR isn't always at hand, whereas the phone usually is.

At least you have an image and a bit of post processing (e.g. Snapseed) can tweak the phone camera image a bit.

True. I've post-process photos I've taken on the phone when the situation and the subject has warranted it. Just a subtle filter and retouch mostly, but there are some things that need the big gun.

You don't get an uncropped photo like this on a camera phone

Look at that lustrous coat

Cuteness this compact needs 300mm of zoom

Young Lawrence doesn't get this excited for a phone camera
