Thanks. I did a couple good test rides, maybe 50 miles worth, and the cluster is performing as new.
Great to hear. I still have not gotten my cluster back but I am in no hurry right now. I have my Ducati to ride in the mean time.

It was nice ot meet you last week. Look forward to riding with you when all this craziness is over.

Name is McDowell, he has a professional shop. I'm planning on being there around noon on Friday, Mar. 20th. Says he will do the work while I wait. The work being replace two capacitors, resolder area where power pins connect to the board, and examine for bad solder joints. If this doesn't work I'll be taking another trip to Pensacola to visit the dealership and spend the big $$.
I have the same problem with my 2007 R1200R. Do you think you could provide the contact information for McDowell? I would like to see if I send my cluster in and have it repaired. Thanks
My e-mail is [email protected]

I am going to see John tomorrow, Monday October 11. I respect his priviacy, so I will ask him if he is interested in working on another panel. If he agrees, I will send along his information.

I will post up tomorrow and let you know his decision.

Yes, he is a great guy. He told me someone else had called him but I didn't realize it was you.

He did great by me. But, you have to be patient.

If you come by here, give me a call. I can put you up if you would like. His shop is 5 minutes from my house.

Stay safe.

When I was on this thread a year ago, I was contacted by someone who specializes in BMW gauge repair. Sadly, i misplaced his information and was hoping he would see this or if someone knew his information. If I remember correctly, his shop was in Indonesia. My gauge cluster worked great all summer, but with cold weather, it is not working again. Worse case, I will take it apart myself and try to fix it, but I haven鈥檛 used a soldering iron in 25 years. I was ready to put down the $1,000 for a new cluster, but can鈥檛 find a BMW dealer within 250 miles of my house that will work on a 2007 with the 鈥渙lder鈥 CANBUS. I don鈥檛 want to have to ship the bike somewhere to get it fixed because the shipping cost and the new cluster will far exceed the value of the bike. I can only get $1,000 for it with the bad cluster and about $3,500 with a working cluster.

I am happy to report that my 2007 R1200R is back on the road and my gauge cluster is working perfectly. A gentleman named Jason Lim fixed it for me and the gauge cluster works perfectly.

Thanks! Got removal done, now I'm on to trying to remove the white plastic piece the gauge faces are attached to. Will be troubleshooting the board looking for source of intermittent power problem (the cluster only works when warm, is totally dead when cold, can be awakened from dead in five minutes with hair dryer). If no obvious problems are found, I will probably go ahead and try to replace the capacitor because I saw on ADV forum that this has been done successfully to cure this type cluster.
Hi Samzone, I have identical intermittent power on the isntrument panel on my 2007 r1200r. Do you recall the exact capacitors you replaced? I want to try that before the trip to the dealer. Does anybody know someone in Orlando thant can do the work?

Thank you

JB
