This is what the lid and frame looked like when I replaced a set of lids.
I don't remember if the black plastic piece on top of the lid needs to be remove to get at any of the frame screws.

Have nothing to add to the buy/trade, but just wanted to congratulate you on the purchase of the R. As a fellow Seattleite with a 1250R, the folks at BMW Motorcycles of Seattle (in Lake City) are a good group and a a solid place to take your bike for service. I bought my '20 new from South Sound Motorcycles in Fife in '20, but have been taking my bike to the Lake City outfit ever since.

Now I just need to get it aesthetically how I want it🤙

Thought your name sounded familiar, and just recalled our DM conversation...congrats again on making what was clearly a well-researched and considered decision (and smart move going with the DESA), and glad for any slight nudge I was able to provide. Congrats, too, on additionally making the wise decision to keep that sharp Speed Twin. I'm still giving the ST some thought for a third bike...we'll see.

I appreciate that...might take you up on that if my ST intentions get more serious. I'm afraid if I took a spin now, when I'm still very much on the fence about a third bike, lust might overwhelm logic and reason, given that I already have a sweet spot for Triumph.

Anyway, sorry to derail your For Sale thread...best of luck with your pannier sale!

I do too for the most part, although I really don’t mind the grey color they have now. The S1000XR also has that classy grey, almost blue paint. If I could have found a new ‘23 with dynamic ESA, I may have opted for that.

That was actually my first thought, however two local guys quoted 900 plus dollars which seemed insane to me.

totally insane. there's about 20 bucks worth of vinyl needed, should take a pro about 30 minutes each. I'd buy $900 of vinyl and surely get it right sooner or later. I did a gas tank on a Suzuki 450 once. watched a huge amount of youtube videos. if you can get an extra hand or so it's not tough.

And yes, as you stated, none of the current MY23 Rs are shipping/available with ESA, so used is the only option.

Thanks for posting the pic. I thought about painting or wrapping my cases white but now think it would look too much like a cop bike

You can definitely add some HP/Msport style decals to the case covers to help break them up. Ditto for just vinyl design panels. Cheap and protective options.

For what it's worth, I think the white panniers looks nice with the white bike...but I get that black might make them look a bit smaller, a little less pronounced.
