They specifically say it’s a Roadster, so the new R isn’t the S1000R…maybe it’s an upgrade of the F900R. They couldn’t possibly be announcing the R1300R yet, could they…?

EDIT: I see now that they do have the S1000R listed on their site under Roadster…I thought it was under Sport (and I see the RS is under Sport and not Roadster like the R (?!). Odd, classification seems to more about fairings than engine.). Still, since the M1000R has already been announced, it can’t be that, so…?

With that big R, I’d read Boxer into it. Seems surprising though, as there have been no press leaks. Maybe it’s simply a colour change (different shade of grey/black).

I'm guessing the M1000R with the shiftcam engine although that's already up on their site. Tail section and swingarm doesn't look like a boxer R.

Your eyes are better than mine - I couldn’t discern any details from the video, @daaef, and as you say, the new M1000R is already public. The sound is more like a boxer than an inline four.
The Roadster normally trails updates with other Boxer models.

I couldn't see anything either, tho' I have no doubt that the front-end Telelever is to be reintroduced...

... I'm thinking it'll be an R1300R.
Time for a forum name change! ;)
(actually it is overdue a few years already, and the exclusion of the older R's is also a pity...)

They're calling it "boxer without gloves" so I'm thinking it'll be an R1300R.
As the first model with the new 1300 engine, the Roadster is finally getting its due recognition as the flagship of the Boxer range rather than overlooked sibling.

Open to suggestions -- "R850/1100/1150/1200/1250/1300R Forum" perhaps? ;)

My local Steeler is adamant that BMW have told them that the 1300 will not be launched until late next year.
They are still having supply chain issues on a lot of models. If i wanted a new R1250R they would be able to tell me when one would be available. BMW are not taking orders for R/RS.

Makes sense, now that I think about it seems unlikely they would announce a new engine in the R as they usually do so in the GS models.

Whatever it is I hope it has a nice new headlight that I can drop straight into my 2019.

Haha, no that seems to be not such a good idea
I was more thinking about the domain name. bmwroadsterforum.com or something like that, or rxxxxr.com, although thight might have some unwanted associations... :ROFLMAO:
Something that includes all BMW Roadster models. The division in subforums is just fine as it is.

bmwroadsterforum.com is not bad. It is all inclusive. But it might lose some potential members who don't really track on "roadster".

Don't know how hard it would be to change - domain name, DNS, web searches, links, maybe other stuff.

Good thought at the very least, not averse to checking it out.

Cheers! Dave

Good find @fireman.

". . . BMW Motorrad is celebrating the 50th anniversary of BMW’s M motorsports division by introducing the second M-branded motorcycle, a roadster/hyper-naked . . ."
"HYPER-NAKED". Ummm. My new favorite term.

Marketing, obviously -- get your minds out of the gutter! 😉

Cheers! Dave

The M1000R was announced two weeks ago, as far as I can tell. If this is just more about that already announced bike that will be disappointing.

Edit... Listening to the engine sound in the posted clip, to me that does not sound like an inline 4 or a boxer twin. I'm wondering if there is a whole new engine config coming. V4 maybe? I know, that's probably a long shot.

It looks like the bike in the original post has gold forks instead of black forks.
