I gather I'm supposed to start here, so okay.
I'm a long-time rider (250K miles) who was forced to take a break from motorcycling for a couple/few years, but finally the neuropathy from the chemo has worn off, the neurospinal surgery seems to have helped too, and now I'm back in the saddle. I just bought a 2012 R1200R yesterday. It's Candy Apple Red (I think that's what it's called...it's an odd shade of red featuring a lot of orange metal flake) with 3200 miles on the clock. It's in truly mint condition. The extras it came with are the trip computer, tire pressure monitor, heated grips, and a factory windscreen. I ditched the windscreen today. Way too much additional noise/turbulence.
This is my eighteenth motorcycle yet only my second BMW, the first being a '97 R1100R. This one is clearly lighter handling and more powerful, with a better seat and a much-needed sixth gear. I miss the classy-looking analog clock of that '97 model, but that's it. Nearly everything else about this new one is better.
