If your only goal is use tubeless tires, check with Woody’s Wheel Works in Denver to see how much they would charge to seal your spokes. It’s got to be a lot cheaper (and just as effective) than replacing your spoke wheels with cast wheels.

Apologies, I just noticed you’re not in the U.S. Are there not wheel houses in Oz that provide similar services?

Some people here love spoked wheels and would perhaps be in for a trade.
Personally I would never buy a bike with spoked wheels. We are at least a century ahead of that... ;)

I would prefer alloys for ease of plugging but I prefer the look of spokes on my beloved classic and definitely not a deal breaker. Next time I need tires I may seal the spokes. Tube prices have doubled in the last few years and my mechanic won't mount a tire without putting a new tube in.

Maybe not a century - closer to five decades.

Cast wheels were first approved for use on motorcycles in Japan in 1978 and Yamaha was the first manufacturer to fit cast wheels to its motorcycles following this approval.

I had a 1978 Yamaha 750 with cast wheels. I didn't remember that being the first year for cast wheels on production bikes.

I found that info on a Yamaha site, just to establish a timeframe, although the 1976 RD400LC had cast wheels - the date probably reflected a local certification requirement. Some Euros offered cast wheels on a few models from 1975/76, as did Harley. Aftermarket cast wheels were available a tad earlier. The Münch Mammoth of 1963 had a cast rear wheel.
(The internet is a wonderful source of memory refreshment 😂)

I run laced spokes on my R9T and just about to modify to go onto tubless. If you watch delboys garage on YouTube he does a full documentary using PUSealer type of product which is structural bonder for vehicles and also it’s known as windscreen bonder. Easy peasy!

Ahead? Just different. There's a good reason most adventure bikes and all dual sport and motocross bikes have spokes....
Yes, but an R is none of those.

Having grappled with this issue myself for my late R9T I found heaps of useful posts, and more than one DIY solution, on the R9T website.
