On my 2017 RS, just recently the daytime riding light (white vertical centre-strip) has chosen to stay on when the RS is parked. The fob key is nowhere near the bike.

I am sure there will be an easy solution and assume I have inadvertently turned the DRL on - 'fulltime'. However, I can't see what/why from my reference to the riders' handbook.

I guess it would take a while to drain my battery, but I am sure it is not supposed to stay on.

Help would be appreciated as the DRL is on right now.

Thank you, Selby

Sorry to bother you reader. I have now managed to turn the DRL off following more determined, uninformed button pressing.

So it is back to the manual to try and understand. There is much info in that manual!

There’s a demon hiding behind all that plasticware. Sell it and get an R instead.

Sounds extremely weird that it should come on if it’s own accord, rather than through a deliberate action (e.g. to initiate ‘parking’ lights). All I can suggest is to disconnect the battery for say 24 hours and hope the demon gets bored and moves on to a Ducati or KTM where it belongs.

Do you have any non- standard electrical accessories fitted, such as USB outlet? Sometimes these can interact unexpectedly with the chassis computer and turn things on.
And yes, it will eventually flatten the battery.

Thanks Panzermann,
I don't have any electrical additions. I did unplug the OEM Navigator lead at the connection beneath the RHS handlebar (beneath the throttle). I taped it up and tucked it away. That's all in terms of Elec changes. I am yet to wire my Zumo XT in and I have (just last week) received the windscreen mount!

I peered through my garage office window this morning, where RS lives; all is quiet and dark, so the DRL may have turned itself off or my battery is flat.

To be revealed shortly.
thanks Selby.

HI again MotoCon, I didn't gain any joy from the Manual on the strange DRL behaviour. It did lead me to details about the other lights and I am still working on interpreting that!.
The DRL did settle down overnight and my battery is healthy. After several switchings on and off this morning the DRL seems to be acting as it should (as I understand it).
I think Panzermann's suggestion to disconnect the battery is a good one - to re-set. I am riding locally tomorrow so I will see how the lights are working, and also when I return. Battery disconnect will come next.

Btw, the mentioned funny behaviour did occur after I returned home from a BMW dealer service. Just a nasty co-incidence I imagine.

I rode the RS yesterday and the DRL seems okay and not doing strange things. However, I did park next to a Bandit in town for a while and maybe the demon slipped aboard the old Suzi :giggle:. I think the bug won't find much to fiddle with there though.
