Cheers! Dave

Roads were greasy and first modern bike I have ridden in 3 or 4 years ( spinal cancer surgery and hernia surgery in the interim, so I have limited feeling in my feet and have partially lost use of my right shoulder).

Power is adequate, acceleration not far off my last KTM 950. Handling seems great so far, soaks up potholed roads.

Riding position is nice and upright giving good visibility without the excess seat height of an adventure bike.

Controls take a little getting used to though not too difficult.

I amanged to get a cheap upgrade to my satnav, so now upgraded from a Navigator IV to a V and picked up a tank bag yesterday.

First time I've been on in a while, with all the **** weather here in the Northeast US, I've been in deep "hurry up Spring" mode. And this is the first thread I've looked at in weeks and , lo and behold, another beauty "Classic"!

I see you have the Comfort seat. For me, the first thing I replaced on mine was the "sport" seat for the Comfort. Huge improvement for me. I also ditched the stock screen for a Madstad, which is better and offers a lot more protection. I think I'm going to try a V Stream, short Sport, dark smoke screen this year. It's a vanity move. I saw one on a Classic a while ago and it really looks nice on our bikes. Protection wise, its midway between the stock screen and the Madstad.
Do you know what exhaust that is? Remus?
Lovely looking area! Reminds me a bit of Newfoundland...

I am on the West coast of Scotland, we get mild winters due to the effect of the Gulf Stream.

How do you like that Akra? I'm going down the aftermarket exhaust road now. I've always considered Akra the most natural pairing with BMW, particularly Boxers. A video would be worth it's weight in electrons, if you're so inclined.

Thanks, Dave

Probably be the weekend before I can get a video, with the baffle out it is a bit throaty, I run it with the baffle in. My other bikes are mainly 1950's so my neighbours are used to my noisy bikes.

No rush, I popped for the Akra, your pic above helped ;) I'll be posting the results in one of the exhaust threads.

Looks like you've got an Ilmberger carbon fiber/fibre hugger. Those are exquisite, light, strong, beautiful and spendy (of course). That's my next mod.

Enjoy your 'new' Classic and report back! :)

Cheers, Dave

I can recomend the Leo Vince. There was a Exhaust Test in the „Motorrad“ magacine few years ago. It was on a DOHC GS so should be same for the R. Winner was Leo Vince. One of the lightest, best output on torque & hp site.

2 degrees this morning, had a run up towards Oban.

Took photo's at Dunadd hill fort, the ancient capital of Dalriada Kingdom from 2000 years ago. Modern compared to the 5000 year old standing stones within site of it.

Glad you are able to ride again, mate!
A word of caution about tank bags. Unless it doesn't touch the tank (tank lock bags) sooner or later, it will micro-scratch the paint. Ask me how i know. I even had a tank lock bag designed for adventure bikes on my Tiger. I kept a Leatherman in it and it would migrate down into the bottom of the sloping part of the bag such that the bag would touch the tank and over time, from swiping back and forth marked the paint. Even if you're not super fussy about such things, it's a drag to have a key visual part of the bike marred from this.

Do you happen to recall if it required a re-map of the ECU?
