Dunno Why

Mine came with a plastic cap to cover the LEFT side.
The right side was, like you stated, for some reason, left uncovered.
I asked the dealer. He smiled, shrugged shoulders, No reply.
???

being a total noob, I actually called my BMW dealer and told them i needed a new cover because that was either not installed or fell off!

They didn't mention that i could buy a cover for it... They just gently informed me that it comes that way, and advised me to lie down and take a nap...

Swing arm pivot cover right for BMW R1200R | BMW Motorcycle Accessory Hornig
Ah, Finland... Ah, Hornig...

I have a Hornig rear hugger. A&S Cycles is a dealer for Horning here in the States if anyone is interested. They may not have this in stock (they had to order the hugger from Hornig) but they will get it relatively quickly and save you many $$ on shipping. A&S BMW Motorcycles: BMW Motorcycle Parts - BMW OEM Motorcycle Parts Fiche - BMW Motorcycle Parts and Accessories - BMW Motorcycle Apparel - BMW Motorcycle Clothing - New and Used BMW Motorcycles - R1200GS - G450X - F800GS - F650GS - S1000RR - R1200R

They were very pleasant to do business with as well.
