So about three weeks after Sicily, I took my bike down to France near Limoge where I met my friends from the Suzuki Owners Club UK at our bikers hotel. (Route 66 Hotel).
This time I was on my own but still took both panniers and the top box. We all had a great time during the week culminating in a punk covers band who played at the hotel on the Friday night. We all dressed up as punks (well as much as possible).
On the journey down which was just over 900kms I broke the journey up around half way and stayed in a hotel north of Paris.
On the Saturday when we left to come home it was about 9am and I rode back up to the same hotel where I'd booked another room, however it was still only 1:30pm so I pondered, shall I ride all the way home or just stay at the hotel. Well I decided to cancel my room and ride all the way home. I don't think I did too bad - I got back to my house at 6:30pm, only stopping for fuel and toilets. I've never ridden so many miles in one day before 900kms = 590miles, so I'm well pleased with myself. Anyone else ridden so far in a day.
The bike needed about a half a cup of oil which isn't bad considering I wasn't hanging about coming home and it was full when leaving home before the holiday.
The bike is just running better and better and I guess that the front part of the seat can't be that uncomfortable if I managed to sit there for over 9 hours.
It's going to need it's 10,000 kms service very soon.

Your trip sounds great. Except for the punk part ;-)

First week in July a friend and I rode home from Toronto Canada to Boston in one shot. That was the longest ride I've ever done. It was 642 miles and it was 9.5 hours in the saddle with 10.5 hours for total trip with stop for breakfast and fuel/hydration stops. I'm planning on a write up and some pics of the trip. It was fantastic but very hot every day of the 6 day trip. Most days we around 96F (33C) with 90% humidity.
