Turned out to be an expensive value proposition though. Was able to ride home 60 miles with white knuckling.

The pressure held up all the way home, went up a PSI as tires warmed up. I also had a shop cut a few inches off the blade as it was missing the exhaust by 1mm while turning. I am lucky.

A lucky escape there to get home with effectively two punctures, one in the sidewall. 😬

I had that happen with a spike in the late 70s. It went through the rubber at the edge without cutting the tube.
Made a hell of a racket each revolution as the spike hit the muffler.

My wife had the same thing happen in 2008 when a piece of number 9 wire went into the edge of her tire on a K1200RS.
Didn't have to replace either tire.
