Do you use GPS? What brand (BMW or other). If later, where and how do you mount it?

I am researching the best way to mount GPS on R1200R. I want to go with Garmin Nuvi as cheaper alternative to BMW GPS. There are several mounting solutions on the market and I looking for their pros and cons

I have a Garmin Zumo 550, which is made for motorcycles and comes with a handlebar mount. The most recent model now sold by Garmin is the Zumo 660. Go to E-bay and search "Garmin Nuvi motorcycle mount"

I want to use Nuvi 550, which is cheaper than Zumo.
As to mounts there are many different ones and I was looking for feedback. To name a few:

I found this GPS mounting idea which looks great:

It is shown for R1200R, but should work for most other bikes. Basically you replace one of bolts used to mount your handlebars with a
new one, with ball on it. Then you hook up your regular GPS mount on it.

The company producing these is in UK and it is impractical to ship to US. I was wondering if it possible to produce something like this
cheap locally. Maybe it is a matter of buying a plastic ball and drilling a hole in it and putting a long bolt through it. The parts should not
cost more than $10.

If enough people are interested maybe we can put our efforts together to produce a small batch?

I Work at an Avionics helicopter shop. I asked the Tooling department to Fabricate me a mount. It's beautiful. It may not have ball joints and such, but man it looks and mounts great.
