Hi

I bought my 2009 R1200R a few weeks ago. I decided I needed a change from my R1100S as it started to be a little unreliable and when fully loaded with passenger and luggage touring Northern France I need something I can trust. Hence the 3 year old R1200R. I think I got a bargain, probably because I bought it from a Yamaha dealer who just wanted to get rid of it.

I've been riding for 30+ years but only really enjoying it as a pass time for the last 5. Living in Kent, only an hour away from the Dover/Calais ferry, I take as many Euro tours as possible. This year I had my first long distance tour with 2 weeks in the Pyrenees. Having a friend with a farm house down there helps, I've already got next years tour planned.

There are a few upgrades I've been thinking about and as I'm not very technically minded or skilled may be asking some questions, but for now I'll just enjoy the R12 as it is.

Dave,

Welcome, pip pip and all that...people here are quite approachable so ask away. And since its a truism that motorcycles have more fun in a group, you need to invite is all across the pond for a group ride.... :)

Not sure if Dave has quite the same following in the US as it does in the UK but everybody should know a Dave. We even have our own TV channel over here.

New from Sin City

As a youth I spent most of my time shredding the Mojave Desert from Barstow to Vegas on Bultaco's to Husky's. Now's 40+ years later, I got the Beemer bug and acquired a '78 R100RS and a '84 R100RT. Both were in fantastic shape and are making great restoration platforms.

Anyway, I was at the dealer the other day picking up some parts for the RS and I just threw my leg over a R12R just for grins. Boy was that a mistake! I wound up coughing up a deposit on a 2013 90th Anniversary R1200R. Wasn't expecting that, but loved the sit so much, I couldn't help myself.

That's my story as to why I'm here on this forum. I hope to meet new friends and learn a lot along the way. Greetings from Area 51
