100% with MikeHSG on this.

I enjoy riding the R at lower speeds but anything above about 70 is a pain. Haven't done anything about it yet - waiting for a road test - but I think the 1250R will go away to be replaced by a Moto Guzzi V100 or possibly R1250RS.

But the world is made up of a range of people, and some people love naked bikes, others don't. I'm tending to think though that there isn't much middle ground.

Agreed you buy the R for the naked/raw looks and RS or RT depending upon which avenue you want with wind protection/fairing: more sporty touring or more relaxed touring.
The R alone stands for raw vs sport or tour ;)
