I'm considering moving from my '07 F800 St to the R1200R and one of the things I really like farkle wise on my St are the HID headlights(DDM Tuning, 55 watt, high and low). I searched here and couldn't find anyone going this route with the R.
Any reason I couldn't do HID on the R?
Thanks.
Jack.

HIDs

inglimer, I am not an electrical wizard, but have 2 extra Halogen running lights that pull 55 Watts each, and they seem fine. Fleuger99 has some accessory light, too. Only NEGATIVE reason is, the Canbus can be a PITA sometimes, so I would suggest adding a separate fuse box off the battery. Eastern Beaver,AP-1, BlueSea, or Centech fuse block.

You have nothing to lose in trying to mount them, except perhaps an error code. If you have a GS-911 to rely on, may be even easier to diagnose. Go for it!!! Please post pics here if you do it. Thanks in advance.

Hoshiko. How come there's no price on that LED? For what it's worth, I copied the website address to the mechanic guys at Cycle Works of Barrington and told them that if will work as a drop in replacement, i want it. :) Will keep you posted if I hear back. drD

Good find, Andy57! I sent a message to the eBay store, asking if they knew whether the light would work as a drop in for the 12 R1200r. Will let you know if they know anything. I don't know that it's all that expensive for a lifetime light with better light, more coverage and lower battery draw. drD

Those "truck-lite" people are only distributors, so the Ebay people may be the way to get the light.

The BMW guy is going to contact the eBay guy and get back to me. I emailed the Ebay guy and he said that the light was a plug in replacement for a Harley 7inch light, but he didn't know about whether it would work on BMW's. Keep you posted. drD

That'a a dilemma, for certain. There is some room up under the front of the tank on both sides. fluger99 has mounted 2 mini-lights there. If you have a windscreen, behind it at the bottom. Hoshiko put his Easypass there, and it is about ballast size, isn't it? 2 would probably go there. I have an ETC unit under the seat at the very rear. I also found room for 2 rolls of tools & light wiring & fuse panel under the seat. Search carefully & use your ingenuity. Good Luck.

Bad news on the 7 inch LCD. This is from the tech at Bannockburn Illinois' Cycle Works:

"The Bmw headlight is not of a standard diameter. It’s over 7”, they
have always used something different from everybody else. SO I
would say it will not fit in the Bmw shell. We currently cannot find
a good mounting location for the H.I.D. light either."
