I sent an invite to the folks from "Two Wheels Big Life" on youtube. they've been living on the road on their bikes for close to two years now. both are now on BMW GS 1250's. hopefully they can make it and you all will end up on youtube. head on over to youtube, or facebook and give them a shout out.
I think that's the couple Debbie has watched on Youtube. She said he started with a Harley pulling a big camping trailer and ended up trading for a GS.
She said the later shows they haul their bikes on a flatbed truck and pull a RV.

yup that's them. he had a Harley and she had a K-bike originally. her rear drive destroyed it's self on the K-bike and she got the GS. they decided that trailer tent living was getting old after a year and a half and got their trailer and flat bed truck. he got a GSA to go with her GS so they could explore more unpaved roads and territory. personally I think he rode her GS and decided to it was a much better bike than the Harely. right now they're up in northern Texas, hopefully they can hang around the state long enough to make your rally.

Some of those places look pretty good, and haven't tried them yet, so need to write them down :).

One thing I hope this rally can avoid, is another Harley rally at the same time. That was the case when I went to the iBMW one a long time ago, and it was awful. There were like a million Harleys, and they were not only dangerous crossing over the yellow line onto oncoming traffic often (I had to dodge several of them), but they can get violent if you attempt to pass their miles-long processions uninterrupted. They never got the memo for group-riding etiquette, of not having more than a maximum of 6 bikes per group (or sub-group), allowing other traffic to safely pass, merge, etc. I remember a guy in front of me on that rally passing several Harleys in a very safe manner, and they literally pushed him to the oncoming lane, not allowing him to stay. I just pulled over to wait at that point, and he did the same after that scare ahead of me. That's why that was the first and last time I made it there on a weekend. Most of those guys are not friendly to other non-Harley riders at all. If a bike wants to pass me, I'd immediately pull to the right, and even signal them that it's okay to pull over next to me. Any bike. So be safe there guys. If you encounter such a group, I'd just pull over, and let them get away. Not worth a possible confrontation there, or later on. Or worse; an accident.

The Poker Run at the 2022 Hill Country Hangout
Glasses Drinkware Liquid Water Food storage containers

We have anted up!!
Our Poker Run will include a number of very rural roads that have little traffic. The window to complete the Poker Run will probably be from 9AM until 4PM. It's 122 miles long and will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. For those not familiar with Poker Runs, our version will work something like this: You’ll be given a written sheet with riding directions from the starting point in the park to the finish at the same location. Along the route you’ll be asked to collect answers to specific questions about places on the route or simply take pictures of the same that answer the questions. For every correct answer or picture, once you return to the scorer’s table, you’ll be able to draw a card from a standard deck of 52 cards up to a max of 7 cards if you get all the selected answers / pictures. There will also be a bonus question and if you get all the correct answers and the bonus, you’ll be eligible to draw an 8th card to make the best 5 card hand you can. The best 5 card hand wins the pot. The pot will be seeded with a $100 bill to get the contest going. All entries will be required to ante $5 to that pot and the pot builds from there. So, the more entries, the bigger the pot!

A scoring summary follows:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poker Run Scoring
7 Card Stud
Best 5 Card Hand Wins

The Pot starts with a $100 bill. Each entrant will have to ante $5 to compete. The total pot value to the winner will be the sum of the $100 and each $5 entry.

There are 10 possible bonus items / locations on this Poker Run. Simply answer each question (marked by an X) about the item / location on your route instruction sheet OR take a photo of the item / location - either is acceptable, but a photo is preferred. When you return to the scorer’s table you will draw a playing card for each bonus you successfully record up to a maximum of 7 cards, whether you answer the question about the bonus or simply take a photo. If you only successfully record 4 items / locations correctly, you will only be able to draw 4 cards; 5 correct submissions will net you 5 cards; 6 = 6 cards, and so on up to a full draw of 7 cards for 7 correct bonus submissions.

If you successfully net ALL 10 of the bonus locations AND you can accurately submit the exact number of XXXXXXXXXX you encounter on the entire route, you are eligible to draw an 8th card from which you can choose your best 5 card hand.

There is no reason for you to have to dismount your motorcycle to either record your answer or take a photo. Most of these locations allow a sufficient off road / right of way area for you to record your answer or take your photo.

Most of these roads are country back roads, Farm to Market Roads, Ranch Roads, or tertiary roads, and have very little traffic, but farming / ranching equipment may be in use on some of them. It’s a very beautiful route with lots of curves and hills and changing scenery / topography.

Have Fun and ride Safely!!

Yeah…how was the local community? Another group I’m in usually did annual trips there in the fall, but not 2019. I’m wondering if the influx of the undocumented is creating issues with how safe border towns are for tourism.

We go to the Hill Country every year (had to ship 2020) and never had a problem.
Except Big Bend and Del Rio it's been a long time since we've been to any of the border towns.

Most undocumented immigrants are not criminals, so I wouldn't worry about that;). I live in a border town (El Paso, TX), and it's one of the safest cities to live in, even with all the immigration issues it has. But places like Kerrville are beyond immigration check-points, so much less of that. The Presidio and Big Bend areas are 'border towns', however, since they're between the border, and immigration check points. But if you're afraid of that, you'd miss two of the best motorcycle roads in the world: The 'river run' (Presidio to Lajitas), and the road to the Santa Elena Canyon, inside the Big Bend park :).

Our staff and our guests seem to agree that the 2022 Hill Country Hangout was an outstanding success. The weather was perfect - cool nights for camping and warm days for riding. Our rally chef and kitchen staff did a truly incredible job with the food and the food service. I can assure you that no one went away from either Friday or Saturday night dinner hungry! Our complimentary beer upon arrival at the Park seemed to be appreciated as well!

We awarded our grand prizes - an AGV Carbon Aramid helmet from Alamo BMW, a Baxley "LA Chock" from Baxley Companies, a $300 dollar gift certificate from Sargent Cycle Products, and a set of Hyper-Lites to 4 lucky winners. Our 50 / 50 drawing netted our lucky winner $384; 41 people entered our Poker Run, so our winner walked away with $305 on a full house hand after getting all 10 of the specified locations and the bonus question. We also gave away numerous gift certificates as door prizes during the day each day. Many of our guests also rode the famed "3 Sisters" as you might have imagined.

The aggregate distance ridden to the "Hangout" by all attendees was 46,651.6 miles, and our "Long Distance Rider" award went to a lovely couple from Mexico City, having ridden 1520 miles to the Kerrville Schreiner Park.

We had a great time hosting the HCH this year and are already looking forward to next year! Hope you can join us then.
