I just got my 2011 R1200R and need some luggage. I need something small to carry things like glasses, gloves, flashlight, etc on everyday commute rides. BMW bags and BMW even top case too huge for my liking. Ideally all I need a small top case.

Another question I struggle with is the best way to carry a laptop on commute rides. I used backpack before, but I recently thought it would be cool to have thin-profile saddle bag where I can stick my laptop (inside carrying bag). Anybody seen something like this?

Are there good aftermarket luggage for R1200R? Please share your favorites. Thanks!

I bought a 50 dollar hard case on Ebay that holds a good sized Masterlock chain, a sweater, sunglasses, etc, and would hold a laptop. Sits on the luggage rack and locks in with a universal bracket. Even has a red wrap around reflector on the back. . .

for my daily commute around town, I have a small "Held" tank bag. It's magnetic and is the perfect size for the around town commute. It holds sun glasses, gloves, pen & pad and other do-dads. I bought it in Daytona many years ago and can't find that particular one on Held's website, but they have a large selection on their website. When I hit the road, the Held comes off and I strap on a large touring "Marsee".

top case on a 1200

this is the 50 dollar case. I just ordered a larger one, so I can put my helmet in as well. Still less than 20 percent of a BMW case.

MD11, The box is mounted on the luggage rack with a plate that fits on top, and a couple of metal brackets that are screwed underneath. Piece of cake to put it on. Hoshiko, I know that the side bags fit a helmet, there are just times that I don't want to ride with the whole bag setup; a top case seemed like the way to go. I was surprised about the good quality of the top case. Everything holds together, it's sturdy. Different key, but that's the only inconvenience and hardly worth an extra 450 dollars :) When I get the larger XL top case (also for about 50-60 bucks on Ebay) that will fit a helmet, I'll let you guys know how that one works.

I agree with you, just don't like the look of the topcase mounting, and that can't be removed easy.

I was thinking on getting a seat bag to carry around my rain gear, air seat, phone charger etc etc. and be able to leave my saddlebags at home. It won't give you the safety of a locked case but you won't have to get the mounting stuff, plus is really easy to put on and take off.

I'll be buying it soon and posting pictures. Click on it.

Hoshiko,
The top case I got can be removed with a push button. The case clips on to the base plate on the luggage rack that's just a 5"x5" black metal baseplate on the rack. The case can be disengaged after it's unlocked in about 2 seconds; you just push a button.

reguiar and XL TMS top cases

each one about 40-60 dollars. . .metal plate sits on luggage rack and has clips on the front of case and a locking clip on the rear. Ebay is full of them. The only problem is looking at the XL case, I can't get the Queen song "Fat Bottom Girls" out of my head. . . .:)
