As said in the introductions sections I will evolve from my r1150r to a r1200r when the right one comes along. I have my 1150 tweaked just as I like her. But, will those tweaks be doable on an r12r?

1st--I removed the silencer and replaced it with a stubby pipe about 60-65k miles ago, better sound, better mileage;
Can this be done on an R12R? I can do it on the 1150 because the cat conv is still there to muffle some sound, but I don't see it on the 12.

2nd--To avoid being a "blinker-amus," I installed a Kisan Signalminder on my 1150 and like it's multifaceted functions. Can this be done on the 12? I've seen some mention of an "auto off" function on the 12???? turns off blinkers after X time??

3rd--I have the 380 "tall" screen on my 1150 and mostly like it, realizing they are ALL (expensive) compromises in one way or another. I would do the tall screen on the 12, but might I be better served by the Z Technic screen?

I'm sure there will be other questions to follow, and they are related to budgetary issues for a new bike, as well as function.

TIA

John,

1. The catalytic is built into the pipes directly under the cylinders, so, you could take off the silencer if you wanted. Whether your state lets it be legal is another question.

2. Signals turn off automatically: From rider's manual: After driving for approx. ten seconds or after covering a distance of approx. 650 ft (200 m), the turn indicators are automatically switched off.

3. You have lots of great choices in windscreens: BMW, ZTech, Cee Bailey, Touratech, Wunderlich, Cal Tech. And this forum is FULL of opinions on all of them.

but would it then be louder 'n "heck?" Right now, with the silencer removed on the 1150 the sound is not that much louder than stock, just throatier, no sewing machine. I am not a proponent of loud pipes saves lives...at all. I suppose I could just remove the muffler and hear for myself. Have people on this forum done that? Does it adversely affect any back-pressure needs on the r12?

#2...great! thanks

#3... right, lots of choices, but that is an expensive prop to trial and error. let me rephrase. The tall screen 380 is pretty good and I like its look. It is noisy where my head falls, though if I raise my head up about 2 inches, the wind is feels stronger, though the air is smoother, slightly quieter, straighter--so I suppose that means less turbulence. I had the touring screen originally on the 1150 and hated the wellnut mounting system. Everyone is seeking the Holy Grail of windscreens, but short of a goldwing or an RT, I suspect it hasn't been found? I will, when the time comes search those links.
Aside: I know some purists will say 'it's a naked bike, go naked," but I have been hit by way too many rocks, bugs, asteroids, etc to do that. :)

And thanks for the answers, very appreciated.

John,

Personally I prefer having at least a shorty shield so I can relax in the saddle. That said, I'm 5'9" and have a low seat and with the ZTech 18" shield I get buffeting and noise in my face at highway speeds. I couldn't use bluetooth even with my Schuberth C3 with the amount of noise I get.

I'm planning on using a cardboard mockup of the 21" to see if it stops the issue and if not I'll be watching for answers from the forums to see who else has the solution.

As for the exhaust, I still have my stock one on my '08 and until it craps out I'm not bothering to mess with it.
