Greetings all fellow R1200R riders :)
Purchased my beemer last year, a 2007 model with low Km's.
Main reason for changing from my old Suzuki intruder 1400L was I needed a more ergonomic bike.
I always considered BMW boxers to be slightly quaint, sedate and a typical geezer ride, so you fellows will understand the surprise I experienced during the first ride (even if I am a bit of a geezer myself ;)).
After a couple of involuntary wheelies I caught on to the power register of this smooth engine and went on to my favorite stretch of country back road, a 35 Km stretch of twisting and hilly narrow tarmac. Fifteen minutes later I was grinning from ear to ear, never have I experienced such a smooth ride. Earlier backbreaking bumps in the road disappeared into the suspension, taking previous tongue in cheek corners at speeds far above what I could reach on earlier bikes. Fabulous brakes, fantastic suspension, low weight and an engine delivering torque and power so smooth I never felt something like it before. The throaty exhaust note from the Akrapovic mufflers a bonus, emitting the soundtrack of a Ducati racer - I'm in love!
There is a couple of sour grapes in this basket, and I will post a couple of questions regarding that a bit later.
In the meantime I will be out riding..........

Welcome, fellow Geezer. Roadster lovers are gathered here.
You've discovered one of the best kept secrets in the BMW lineup.
The R1200R is a versatile machine. Not perfect. Some compromises necessary. Take all those grapes out of the basket and share them around here with other members. Together, we'll make some wine. Vel bekomme.

Sour Grapes?

I'm curious to hear about your sour grapes.:(

I think Halonk doesn't like the ''deceleration" sounds.
You said that you don't care now.
I think drDave said perhaps BMW designed it to sound that way.
I kinda' like it. Funky sound. It's quirky.
A Ducati sounds much better, though.

cruiser geez

I know the feelin' Halonk! From the fat ol' cruiser I loved so much to the roadster I love even more! Still tweaking and dialing in the 1200R, but my, my, what a ride! Maybe not an Italian supermodel, but a mighty sweet little fraulein... That'll do for an old phart...

Welcome!

Hello there!

I have family in Verdal (Værdarn), have been there a few times as a kid. Lots of nice motorcycle roads! Do you have a lot of "fotobokser" (radar cameras) there?

I'm originally from Telemark but live in South Dakota now. I have a new R1200R on order, expected arrival this coming Monday. Can hardly wait!
