I have been looking at the R1200R for a while and then found the forum and saw what you guys and gals were saying about the bike and it pushed me over the edge:)

Well, I drove out of the BMW showroom with my smoky grey R1200R today. The bike feels great and I can't wait to hit the roads around Cape Town this weekend.

I had a R1100RT until 2008 and then got the F800ST which I sold last week. I wanted the 1200 muscle with the maneuverability of the 800, and I think that the R1200R is the bike that will do it for me. I hope to have many miles (km's) on it.

hi stan, welcome aboard! got my roadster a couple of months ago and am lovin it. am slightly heigth challenged so was fortunate to get a low suspension low seat model. to fine tune i opted for bar risers from touratech, 1 in. up and 5/8" back and had my seat customized by rich's in kingston wa. stock seats are o.k. for the occasional few hundred miler but am planning a coast to coast next summer so had the seat fine tuned with gel pac and closed in with fine stiched leather. and remember stan, chrome up, rubber down.

Thanks guy's for the welcome.
Only having ridden a few miles i can feel the seat is quit hard compared to my F800ST Gel seat. I have to agree with you Hairball that I will be going for a softer seat at some time. My wife love to ride with me and the hard seat will not go down well. Otherwise I am loving the bike. I just which that the weather would play along with me in Cape Town, South Africa as it has been cloudy with occasional rain, and it is not letting up until next week:-(

Keep the chrome up and the rubber down

The screen is a MRA
MRA Motorcycle Screens for Naked Bikes
I got the screen with the bike. I looks great but I will change it at sometime for a slightly larger screen when I start touring. I first need to run the bike in and wait for summer. it is meant to be spring in cape Town but feels and looks like winter with rain and temperatures of 13deg C.
Nice looking Bike, I love the colour;-)

Hoe gaan dit Stan? :) Congrats on the new bike. Does the shield you have provide good coverage? I ordered mine two weeks ago and it will be a long wait as winter here in the North East of the US is only just beginning and it is long and harsh. Cape Town is ideal for riding, especially along Chapman's Peak and over into Houtbay and onto Cape Point. I'm originally from Cape Town, Sea Point to be specific. Bly maar lekker,Craig

Around town the shield seems fine.
I am still running the bike in and have not taken it for any distance. I think that I will need a bigger screen when I start doing longer distances with the bike and also in winter.
