Hi. Just joined. I'm interested in the R12R and my other bikes are an '04 V-Max and an '07 F800ST. I'm retired in the Kansas City area and have been riding most of my life.
The F800 Forum seems to have more activity than this one. Is that because there are not that many R12R's out there?
They also seem to be pretty scarce in the used market place?

Hey Jack, welcome to the forum,
That Vmax looks like a nice ride, I always want it to ride one.
This forum is pretty young, 2011 so not many people knows about it.
I also agree not many people knows about the R1200R themselves.
I had people riding R1200GSs asked me "what is that?" Some one thought it was a costume made R1200GS

I don't think alot of the r1200r's are on the used market place because everybody who buys one WILL NEVER SELL IT once they ride it. It's a great bike! Doesn't feel heavy or turn slowly like a cruiser and the seated postion is much better than a sport bike.

seems like the total production numbers are low, but the used/resale numbers are even lower due to high retention rates by owners... People tend to get to the 100,000+ miles on these twin boxers...

Best thing is to go test ride one at a dealer and see if you like the seat position and such. I walked in to buy an s1000rr (waited 6 weeks for it to make the journey here) and rode off on a r1200r. It may surprise you also. Good luck on your choice.

I'm pretty much a 1200R and BMW noob myself, having purchased mine on Cinco de Mayo this year. I keep reading and hearing how the 1200R is the poorest seller in the lineup (only 7,000 sold worldwide?) and all i can say is: the rest of the lineup must really be spectacular! I don't like fairing, came off 9 years and 100k miles on an 850 lb cruiser set up as a full dress bagger and I still can't get over what a great bike this R is. 300 lbs lighter, 15 hp more, agile as a cat, comfortable and versatile, not to mention configurable in a multitude of ways. What more is there!? Oh, yeah... FAST!
