I'm going to put on my handguards and unscrew that Torx bolt holding the bar ends in. Is there anything to know? Springs popping out and hitting you in the eye? Accidentally triggering the R1200r self-destruct sequence?

There is nothing to worry about that, just a plain an simple screw.

Thanks Hoshiko! Will try it tomorrow. Have to figure out the basically indecipherable installation instructions; I think that's where they saved money

well, the carbon handguards might work on a bike with no fluid cylinders on the bar, but didn't even come close to fitting with all the liquids that BMW puts on the bar. . so I found a set of Chrome S1 Barkbusters with mounting kit on eBay for about 70 bucks. . so that's my next farkle.
