Replace/repair foot peg rubber

3380 Views 23 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  home4sale2
On my 2011 R1200R the left driver foot peg rubber is split and starting to separate. I was hoping it could be easily replaced but it looks to be attached using a blind rivet. It seems like I have a couple options:
  1. Try repairing the foot peg rubber with rubber adhesive. (It's worth a shot.)
  2. Try replacing the foot peg rubber. In this case do I simply drill out the rivets and use pop rivets to repair?
I want to avoid losing half the foot peg rubber so any advice on dealing with this is appreciated.

I have the riveted ones...I ordered new rubber, hoping to use existing plates. Still not sure if riveting again is a better way to go (3.2mm) or 6mm bolts. I can't wrap my head around how a bolt (without a nut) would hold the plate (it's thin, right?).
Also, looking at @tima (s) pic above, a nut/JB weld holds it but where's the rubber pad in that pic, how does that get put on? Hope my question makes sense.

There are two different plate types, one having an embedded nut, the other having a simple hole for a rivet. Either can be used, with the appropriate fastener.
The plate is fitted internally within the rubber.

Maybe this will help you 'picture' it. All of piece #8 goes inside of #11.

Thank you all. Here are the options I see:

1. The retaining plate with embedded nuts is discontinued so there goes an easier way (the superseded part is nowhere to be found anywhere as well).

AND 2.,
A footrest pad you can use in conjunction with a plate (it says riveted but I am assuming it means rivet enabled) and you buy the Blind Rivets to go along with it
OR
Use your existing plate (implied) and you buy the Rivets alone

If someone has a way to purchase Option A still, I am all ears or I'll buy a Rivet gun. Thank you.
