My bike is a 2007 hex head r1200r

fuel filter replacement is recommended every 40,000km's/25,000miles but kilometers/milage till replacement can vary.

a link to further discussion on fuel filter replacement here

http://www.r1200rforum.com/forum/bmw-r1200r-maintenance-do-yourself-12/fuel-filter-919/

This is what the filter looks like and part number

Auto part Technology Electronic device

1/ Remove Seat
2/ Remove Lateral trim left and right/intake and throttle body covers
3/ Remove cover front of fuel tank
4/Undo tank fixing bolt

5/ Undo fuel line quick connectors/they have a release button and self sealing hose both ends.
6/ remove the breather and overflow hose
7/Disconnect fuel pump power
Remove tank…this is what is under the tank, and where my filter sits.
Taking in a mental picture of how the new filter sits, make sure the new filter arrow is pointing down
Loosen hose clips
Cable the new filter in.

Reverse the process for installation onto the bike.

Thanks for the wonderful photos showing the process clearly.
Helpful for many Roadster owners. Appreciate you taking time to put that together for all.
BTW:When is your service&maintenance DVD being released?

So I had left my fuel filter replacement

till 60,000kms!!! New Zealand fuel is pretty clean.

Out of interest some pics
Cutting the top off the filter…looks like any other filter…bit dirty in there
Definitely has dirtied up comparing to the yellow on the inside of the filter.

fingernails, shmingernails...did you wear the scarf?

On my 1150 it was MUCH harder to get to, actually residing within the tank. Many people, myself included, externalized it.
The 1200 is easy in comparison. Not a very hard job though. I cheated however...when the fuel flange was replaced I asked them to replace the filter at the same time, thus saving my nails. I considered replacing the quik-release connectors, but never did. I did on the 1150 though.

Have just found this post about replacing fuel filter aND thought yes I can do that, one problem though the clamps on the fuel filter are they reusable or do they need to be replaced they look like they were crimped on , hoping to here from the community Russell

Did mine, 48k miles, most likely the original filter. Looked perfectly fine inside. No charcoal particles either so the cannister is fine. Maybe BMW left these off the maintenance schedule for a reason. Felt like I was more likely risking damage trying to cut the hose clamps off than any real benefit. Also hoping i didn't damage the fuel strip turning the tank on its side, but TBD. Overall, barring some suspicion the filter is clogged, I wouldn't bother.

Trying not to start a new thread.. anyone have a line on the Mahle kl0433 that the k27 bikes use. Euromotoelectric, Rock Auto, Amazon, Ebay, Beemer Boneyard... No one has it that I've found.
Dealer is my last choice when they just mark up the Mahle filter with their numbers.

Mahle is the OEM filter manufacturer for BMW Motorrad, but as you imply, buying the identical Mahle branded item should be cheaper.
F800S/ST drive belts were like that - only available directly from Contitech retailers after 10 (I think) years.

It's a bit of a concern as the bike is a 2009 so.... Euromotoelectrics has been my go to place for both Mahle and Mann filters. They have a small discount on the KL0433 but none available.
BMW's version is their number at the top, and all the Mahle markings under the rubber grommet.
At this point I'm likely to remove that rubber grommet and put a similar Mahle filter in place. The KL145's are common across many of the BMW bikes. I think I have one in the supply box. It'd be a bit smaller but likely same flow. Steal the rubber off the old one and give it a try.
When I've opened up filters there's not a terrible lot of difference between one and another.
