My coworkers and I got into a conversation about what bikes we have and when I mentioned I had a BMW, they asked why I had bought an "Old Man's bike". Kinda made me laugh because most people really don't understand how nice a R1200R is to ride. Of course, everybody I work with is in their mid 20's and all they want is a crotch rocket. I'm 31 and I love being able to own a BMW.

Yeah, it must be real kewl, riding a Kawasaki Ninja with your head is staring straight down onto the asphalt the entire time.

BMW does have a certain image... I have noticed a very different reaction from the cruiser crowd since I got the 1200. Maybe it's just me. After 9 years and 100k miles on a VTX 1800R "bagger" I kinda expected some lack of understanding among some of my riding friends... they are scratchin' their heads and I'm just grinnin'!

But my son, who is 20 (I'm one of the geezers at 62) and rides a highly customized SV650, thinks it's really cool. He says I can finally go fast enough that when he's riding tailgun he gets to lean a little in the curves!

drDave, I use to own a zx6r! LOL you are not kidding about staring at the ground! I was just sick of lower back pain after about an hour or 2 of riding. I finally have about 700 miles on her and she just keeps getting better and better! I just ordered the zteknik sport dark tint windscreen. Can't wait till it comes in to install it. I didn't like the wind blast hitting me at 75+ MPH. Hopefully the new screen will help with that.

You'll love it. I put one on my bike and I ride to work half the week which is 96 miles round trip and about 85% of that is interstate. The shield blocks the wind blast except for my helmet which is perfect. I wanted clean air for my helmet so when its hot in the summer I can be a little cooler. I am no longer taking hits in the chest with the wind. It also looks like it came from the factory as it blends so well with the bike.

Well, the dealership ordered the wrong shield. they ordered one for a GS. SO I had to pay another 20 bucks for the one I originally wanted! I go in this past friday, to see if the shield had come in yet. Nope. So the parts guy called Zteknik yesterday and found out that they didn't even put the order over a week and a half ago!!!! Luckily the dealership parts guy gave Zteknik a piece of his mind and I my new sport shield should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. I REALLY hope the 3 week long wait for this shield is worth it! Thanks for the headsup fleuger!

Z Technik

As a result of drDave and fleuger99's posts, I'm really warming up to the V-Screen. That dark smoke screen looks like it was custom made for the matte-grey R1200R. For the 2011-2012 bikes, the 3 new Z Technik screens have a lot to offer ! Mounts look really nice, and very strong.
