Hi All,
Can the spark plugs be removed without removing the cam cover ?
I may be mistaken but I seem to recall that there is a circular rubber seal that if dislodged ( unwittingly), may cause all sorts of problems and require the cam cover to be removed so as to reinstall the seal.

Any comments from the DOHC owners ?
Regards
John

YES, you can remove the spark plugs without removing the covers.
The coil/plug covers are sometimes hard to remove on the DOHCs.
There is a BMW tool, or you can make your own. Very crude, but functional.

Small hook fasteners used to anchor plastic roofing served as a makeshift tool.
A large S hook bent so it won't slip or penetrate too far inside. Haven't got this one perfectly bent yet. Gave my good one to a fellow DOHC buddy.

Large stainless S hook from the home center works well. Covered the ends with small rubber hose from the chemistry lab. Protects my bike parts and fingers.

You must then have a special tool to pull the stick coils. You may be lucky and get away with the flimsy plastic one. I use a metal one.(aluminum?)

Afterwards, a special sized thin wall spark plug wrench to fit the DOHC plugs.

The coils are not interchangeable. The spark plugs are the same.

Purely and simply for my own interest - does the DOHC engine as in my late-012 R have two (2) plugs per cylinder, or only one?
