Yes, I have noticed the sidestand is quite long. My friends generously gifted me a Wunderlich s’stand ‘shoe’ for my RS, so up a bit further I go!

I am happy to be on the RS with it relatively light weight. A pleasant change for me. Thanks Serrge.

Don't bother with the shoe unless you plan to park in soft sand/dirt frequently. It'll only make the bike more likely to tip over.

Thank you, I understand. Fortunately the W’lich shoe has quite a thin sole.

The shoe is a gift from my two riding mates to celebrate the arrival of my ‘new to me’ RS, so fitting was not optional and it is now gratefully mounted.

I can mostly find a side-slope to park on, or else need to carry a tent peg and string. Hey, that’s a good idea! :)

I have the Wunderlich foot extender on my LC and IMHO it's one of the best. What makes it so good is the bike's side stand foot fits inside the foot extender. From memory, Wunderlich's foot adds about 1.5mm in height. So, a nice wide-foot base without adding a real lean angle to the bikes when it's on the side stand. Just saying...

I had a very similar Wunderlich side stand foot on my '18 GS and it was perfect.

Best, Dave

You may know this already but l didn’t until recently. If you set your ESA ride height to Maximum before turning off the ignition it gives you extra mm and increases lean angle. Not perfect but useful. Only takes a few seconds. Cheers 😎
And hit the kill switch then alight before key-off to allow the suspension to rise a bit. The ESA forks are very hard to compress when the key is off, so you’ll gain a tad more lean angle on the side stand.

With panniers removed, does a fall-over to the right damage the exhaust muffler?
If so;
  • Is there a muffler band or cover available for increased protection?
  • Can the pillion pegs somehow be ‘padded/extended outwards’ slightly to offer improved protection?

Thank you, Selby.
Motorcycles are programmed to fall to the left. If it's a very contrary example, then you may have an excess of gravity to the right.

Not so static right-hand side tip-over yesterday while riding along the Bylong Valley Way. Apart from scuffing up a pannier and Machinesart Moto head protector no other damage. The small H&B Orbit pannier took one for the Akra exhaust. I underestimated how slippery the water causeway was and lost the front end.
I managed to pick up the bike and continue my ride. Apart from that little misadventure, fabulous day out on LC. While it's not what I enjoy it was satisfying to see my bike fitness and tip-over practice sessions helping me out in a real-world situation.

That's easy to do. After you stopped you can see there's a fair amount of algae on the concrete.
It's nice that there's very little damage to the pannier. A painted BMW lid would look ugly after that slide.
With my OCD I would replace the right side MachineArt Moto cover.

Yeap, the Algea strip in the centre caught me. However, I got off lightly. I have a spare right-side headcover, and with wet and dry sanding, I can make the pannier scuffs less noticeable.

When I get time I'll go through the dashcam footage. No injuries and riding gear seems all good as well - ATGATT.

It looked like a pleasant ride until the slip. Not much damage by the looks, to you or the machine, so an unfortunate but good outcome.

I wouldn’t have expected a slippery surface lurking in the water. Surprising! Just as well I wasn’t there as it may have been splash 1 then splash 2.

Seeing this makes me very wary about creek crossings from now on but not much can be done. Cross or don’t cross?

I’m glad you and the R survived well.

The was very little depth, and I crossed three or four causeways earlier In the morning and had no issues. Even if I had walked it across following the same line, I would have slipped over. Just in the centre lots of very thick green slime. After I got the bike out, I parked and walked into the centre; it was so slippery, even underfoot. In hindsight, I should've parked the bike and picked a better line. That said, I still had a great day and continued the day's ride. I can't wait to get back out there again.

Mike, Mike, Mike - weren’t you paying attention? That’s the exact same causeway in which I did exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago! And I had the same self reflection afterwards. Mine just folded the other way, and I had Andy there to help me pick it up off the slimy surface.
I did report the condition of the causeway to the Muswellbrook Council suggesting they add warning signs, given I knew of three other riders who had come down on it. Maybe that was why the warning sign trailer was on the left as you approached - it wasn’t there when I slid through. Do you recall what it said?

Hydroplane? It seems doubtful that a slippery surface below that puddle would take you down. If I slow the replay down, it sure looks like the front wheel is pushed off the pavement.

Even if the surface was slicker than dog snot, you'd think that if you had the bars steady, it would just float straight over the little bridge thingy.

@Panzermann I didn't want to be left out; if you could do it, so can I. I got going and stopped a couple of Ks down, a GS ride pulled up alongside looking quite annoyed and said he just went over on the causeway.

I can assure you Jim, that green slime coating the concrete under the water is super slippery. Hydroplaning would have required a much higher speed - there’s barely a splash from Mike’s front wheel.
I was going a tad slower than Mike and the bike did exactly the same.
