Two questions from a new 1250 owner

1. A couple of weeks ago I bought a left over 2022 R1250R Exclusive. What makes it an “Exclusive?”

2. I don’t want to add a windscreen. Is there an option for protecting the TFT without adding a screen?

Thanks!

“In the Style Exclusive, the motorcycle presents itself with the expressive Mineral grey metallic paintwork. There are also valuable materials and surfaces. The Exclusive inscription, large coloured Tape and high-quality stainless steel components round off the stylish appearance.”

Sound familiar?

This is a picture of of the BMW sport screen. Not much of a screen. All it protects is the TFT.

Thanks for the ”Exclusive” info. Just seems like a gray bike to me. ;)

I like the way there is no turbulence at all with no windscreen. I’d rather not pay for a windscreen that might add some. But if that’s the only way to protect the expensive TFT, maybe I get the windscreen and cut it down so it only protects the TFT and poses no turbulence problem. I haven’t had any issues with pressure on my chest from wind blast.
As the owner of the bike pictured above, I can attest to the fact that that small OEM Sport screen does not add any turbulence. I tried the Puig Sport, which wasn’t a great deal larger, and found the noise and turbulence unbearable. I almost instantly went back to the OM Sport, and remain very pleased in the way that it protects the TFT and just takes a little bit of pressure off my chest.

Oh, and mine is the Exclusive model from 2020, and it’s just a name to distinguish it from the Sport, etc. of that same year. Just a name and a color. I think for 2022 there was just that one color, the gray, so the Exclusive ironically became the standard.

For you consideration, you could fully-DYI if you feel like giving it a try: DIY FlyScreen/minimal windscreen
and if you do - I/we would be happy to read/see the results

The Exclusive will also have additional options as standard equipment, depending on what the importer from each country negotiated with head office.

Are you one of those tall people whose head would ride above the turbulence experienced by those of us of more average height? I’m 5’9” and evenly proportioned. On my previous R12R bike I cut down my screen multiple times before the noise inducing turbulence was gone.

I do think the sport screen looks good on your bike.

Where did you get your brackets and hardware? I’d be happy to try making my own screen. I made one for my GS after I ditched the OEM screen and fashioned a shorty that made life much nicer.

My motorcycle had had all that hardware installed/on it already when I have purchased it pre owned (along w/ a tall wind screen)

Ah. Maybe I can find a used windscreen with hardware. Then I’ll be happy to experiment.

FYI Someone here posted a for-sale for that hardware few months ago if I recall, if you feel like searching the forum for that post

I checked and it has been sold. Rats. I’ll keep my eyes open for another. Thanks!

I’m 6”1’ with 34” inseam, so my helmet will ride higher than yours, yes. That said, there truly is no turbulence created by this little flyscreen…more wind noise for shorter riders, perhaps, from the wind hitting the top lip of the screen, but it does cut the wind cleanly.
What do you mean? No fly screen needed!

I actually have been considering one lately. I'm scared to ruin the air flow though. Might have to give the OEM sport screen a try eventually.

My bike came with the BMW sport screen. I took the screen off for a while and after re-installing it, couldn't notice any or much difference! Maybe I'm not overly sensitive.

I wonder if the 'spoiler' that comes with the screen helps to divert airflow? By definition, that is what an airplane spoiler is supposed to do.

Looks like the Wunderlich mounting bracket.
You really can't see the mounting bracket in my picture. Not sure what you're referencing.

Post #2 shows it thru the clear screen.

Exactly!

When I was dealing with the noise inducing turbulence on my GS I took off the OEM screen completely and started playing with an old screen I had. I must have cut it down 3 times before I got the turbulence and noise to an acceptable level.

With the R1250R in its nakedness, the airflow is absolutely blissful. It’s as quiet a ride as I have ever experienced in the 8 bikes and multiple windscreens I have owned. I’m not worried about wind pressure on my chest. I’m lucky enough live where there are almost unlimited backroads right out my door. So I don’t have to ride at 70,75, or 80 mph to get to the good stuff.

I just want to protect my TFT from taking a rock and racking up a big bill to replace it. Maybe I’ll have to get creative. If I come up with something I’ll let you know. I’d appreciate it if you come up with something besides a sport screen.
