In my search for the right r12r I came across one that had the VIN sticker, the black rectangular sticker with details like date of manufacture, weight limits, VIN etc, it had it on the right lower front fork, very visible. On my 1150 it is stuck on the frame on the right just under the triple tree, iow, you have to look for it.
Figuring that the sticker might be located somewhere else on the 12 s, I
ask.

seems like an unusual place for one, unless it had to be moved for some reason?

According to the rider's manual the VIN# is on the steering head bearing. i'd go out and look, but the garage is closed up and it's late...

Frame
Location of type plate Rear frame, on right under seat
Location of vehicle identification number Front frame, upper center

There's a big number stamped in the center in between the handlebars on my Classic 12. It's right in front of your face when you get on the bike.

yes, please look where your sticker is...thanks

ON the 1150, it is engraved on the frame where I described, and the sticker is below it.

I have seen another picture since I posted with the sticker on the right fork, similar spot but more posterior. Could it be that BMW just "sticks" it there because it is an easy spot, and the VIN is engraved elsewhere, as you point out Dr D? Maybe different years different locations?
Is that one of those stickers, like the rec for fuel ROM, that is begging to be removed or relocated with the aid of a hair dryer?

It sucks not to have a dealer nearby--75 miles away.
Kind of sticks out like a sore thumb aesthetically, I think. But I really would not be interested in any bike that has had damage that required a new or relocated sticker, ya know?

Am hoping to go look at some this weekend.. have the same problem..closest dealer is 60 miles away. If nobody else has answered this question by the time I go see the R1200R at the dealer, I will let you know if the VIN sticker is located at the same spot there.

That's right, I have mine right on there, and a horrible NY inspection sticker on the other side.

Make sure you run the VIN with the police department, it takes 5 minutes and you can find out if the bike is stolen or has any accidents, you can also do this with the DMV.

This is the only picture I fount where you can see that sticker.

That red looks cool:clap:

Thanks for the info. I saw a 2009 this weekend and its sticker was there also. Some it appears are more laterally place and some more posterior.

Shame it is so visible, it sure could be placed a little less visible.
