Is there an Avoidance option for that in the menus, like toll roads and other sources of financial detriment? Asking for a friend …

I'd have to check, but I think you can program in addresses to avoid.
Stop routing?
Yep, stop route.
I use it a lot when I don't use a exact address for a destination.

My standard advice for things on a Garmin (BMW NAV) touchscreen that you don’t understand, is to touch it and see what happens. It ain’t gonna explode.

I added Bypass to my map screen (maybe replacing Stop Navigation?). That way I can quickly and easily program a route via towns without having to go to the actual centre of each town - just hit Bypass as you approach the town and the Nav will update the route to the next town. Only the final destination address needs to be entered in detail.
I used my phone (Apple Maps) the other day instead of the Nav and put a town name in to force the route. i found I couldn’t readily do similar - all I got were repeated demands to do a U-turn until I could cancel navigation.

I guess things work differently in your part of the world. Up here it’s a credit on your debit card.

I have Bypass (skip to next waypoint) and End Route both on my screen.

Thanks for the smart ass comments. Ho!,Ho! Now, seriously what does it mean, how did it turn up and what do I want to do about it. All I want is the bloody useless system to take me from a to b without icons which neither bmw or Garmin bother to explain!!
Smart ass?? You’ve already been told more than once what it means. If you think it’s useless and can’t figure out how to use it, why do you still have it? Tell ya what, send me $1,000 and I’ll come hold your hand and explain the whole thing in excruciating detail.
Suggest you look through the thread and other than stop routing with a ? after which implies you are not sure then that was the only relevant comment. It came on when I got home after using it for a route and in spite of setting up other routes is still there. Question.. If I turn it off while on a route what happens? Will it stop routing or what?
Regarding my comment about useless system... Apart from coming with the bike the routing is far inferior to Google and much more difficult to set up a route.. Surely all agree with that? Sorry if I upset you. It is Friday evening in the USA so enjoy! Have a beer and relax!

Stop Routing = Cancel Navigation.
Even though you may have arrived at your destination, the Nav might think you have another 20 metres or so to go, so it is keeping the route alive, as in ‘incomplete’. Touching the X will simply cancel the current navigation.
The question was answered early, some useful tips added, then a little levity, just for fun. We’re like that around here.

With Garmin, I’d never make that assumption. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah - the screen might start acting on its own volition

Thank you. That's the answer I wanted. Since, compared to Google set up Garmin is clunky didn't want to clear symbol in case I had to re enter destination.
Thank you very much. I looked through the nav manual and the bikes manual and nowhere could I find what the icon means. I couldn't sort out if was an icon from the bike or the nav so your post is very helpful. Thank you.
