I went in to buy an S1000rr and ended up taking home my r1200r. I'm glad I did because there is no way I could take the trips I have and plan to on the S1k. What other bikes did you think about before and why didn't you choose them in the end? I'd like to add that the Ducati Diavel is definitely my 2nd choice in hindsight. Kind of regret not looking more into them as I have passed a couple now and have to say, WOW

Hiya dude,had a GS prior to my classic,but looked at the CBR1000 honda sports tourer,and the ducati multistada,the honda was smooth but gutless,and the multistrada was very quick but looked too much like a "trail bike that was confused",plus i liked the classic for its looks and grunt,plus the quality of BM"s luggage.

Honda NV700, shaft drive, ABS, saddle bags, good riding position and cheraper then the R1200R.

Looks and all the technology on the Beemer sold it to me.

Before deciding on the R1200R... I looked at some low mileage bikes (less than 20K miles): a 2001 R1100RT-Police and a 2008 R1200RT and a 2006 K1200GT..... if the K bike had been a lot cheaper and lighter weight I probably would have gone with it....good thing I didn't - all that extra power would have meant instant speeding tickets....

I looked at the Honda NV700 (never rode it) but it looked rather boring and uninspiring. I looked at and test rode the F800ST but much preferred the R1200R handdown from riding position, to smoothness and how solid and planted it felt compared the the F800ST.
