I have no experience with the R1200R exhaust, let alone the R1200R .I have been on the hunt for something that sounds beefy and the video i posted below is an exhaust i like from Akrapovic. Do you think it sounds good or what?

Sounds pretty good, and not obnoxious. It might look better with only one tip coming out the can instead of two.

Two tips on that bike look cool to me, how come you don't like it?
I see a bunch of wicked sport bikes rocking exhaust systems with dual exhaust tips. This one is the better of the bunch. Looks so much more cleaner...it can be worse.

Laser Hot Cam

I put a Laser Hot Cam on mine, sounds similar to the Akrapovic, but single port, with the option of putting in a sport baffle, which is not obnoxious. The EU baffle sounds like stock. Great price and support from Foster Laser RAD out of NY. Easy to install and they followed up with a call to see if everything was alright with installation. I had a laser on my R1100S and wonderful performance and sound.

p.s. the body of the silencer was CF.

exhaust

hi
well what i wanted to put on and what i could warrant spending money on i have put on a laser , its great sound awesome ,no messing with the fuelling and runs great, even come with a baffle removal tool plus a sports baffle , i shall leave the one it came with in as it sounds ok ,its riveted in .
if i don't get on with it i will spend the extra and sell on , but its great so far , stainless and half the weight of the original boat anchor.

Mine is fitted with the Akrapovic shown in the clip. Since I ordered the bike with this can fitted, I cannot comment on performance differences. I run the bike with the baffles out (which is well within UK levels for road and track - around 93db at 5000 rpm stationary). I have had so many comments about the lovely exhaust note, and it sounds good to me when riding. I have ridden others with OE can, and I don't like the engine rattles being louder than the exhaust note.

Akrapovic is an extremely popular choice with Beemer owners in Japan.
One dealer I visited had a large Akra display with a suggested exhaust can
for each model BMW motorcycle on the sales floor.
My local dealer only has a few Akras displayed, but he told me
that every S1000RR imported by BMW Japan comes with
an Akrapovic system.
I have not yet seen an S1000RR here with any other exhaust on it.
Sorry to hijack the Roadster thread with RR rumors.
My exhaust is still the huge OEM can,
although thanks to a fellow forum member,
it's chrome, not the brush finish.
I kinda' like the quiet burble of the stock exhaust.
Doesn't alert the cops when I'm breakin' up the speed limit.

Are any of these exhausts a combination of (1) quiet as stock and (2) more horsepower/less backpressure than stock?

Somewhere I saw a review/comparo of R1200R pipes and the only one that added any horsepower at all was the Remus (if i'm remembering correctly) and it wasn't much... maybe 2 hp. My Leo Vince claims to be lighter but isn't and with the standard baffle installed is almost exactly as quiet as the stock pipe was.

I think I found the review site for all those cans. Maybe worth joining? Sign Up for BMW Urban Riders - BMW Urban Riders
Maybe, but i saw it in a printed form. I think the independently published BMW mag available in bookstores. They did a dyno test on all of the slip ons available for the R1200R. The article was actually about some other stuff and this was just an aside. If I weren't so cheap I'd have bought the danged thing and I'd have it available.
