Why Are There So Few Parts To Buy Online?

4223 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Newportcycle
So I am new to the BMW owner list, just getting my r1200r in August, but I have owned bikes for a while. I have noticed while browsing online that the after market and ebay sales for parts and accessories is almost non-existent for the R1200r.

Anyone know what the deal is with that? Does BMW pull an Apple and require some sort of licensing for after market parts? Did the 2012 model get some major overhaul from previous R bikes? I can usually go on ebay and find dozens of aftermarket parts for the Kawasaki's that I have owned. The R1200R seems to have almost nothing.

Could it be there are so few parts available because R12s are so reliable?!!!

Not sure if you're US, UK or elsewhere. Motorworks.co.uk is excellent for all second hand BMW parts.
That is the european site though. The US site appears to have much less stuff on it. BMW Motorcycle Parts & Accessories | Wunderlich America

I guess there are several reasons why,
First, you are right on the new from 2011 model, some accessories are interchangeable with older models but the brands don't really update their websites.
Some r1200GS stuff will fit the R but, the GS sales are way larger then the R so the brands will make and advertise the GS accessories and most of the time won't even mention the incompatibility with the R.
I think the R has almost everything you can ask from factory and/or most people who buys the Roadster doesn't really farkle it as much?????
Is there a particular R1200R part or accessory you're looking for?
Some GS accessories will work on our bikes. If you post a photo, or ask for help on a specific accessory, another member may be able to help you out. Lots of talent and experience among our esteemed Roadster Forum members. Of course, there are a few eight balls like myself mixed in to keep things interesting.

Little late into this but what are you looking for? I'm fairly new to the R but I've found anything I could possibly want.
