Hi all,

Anyone out there used this Wunderlicht Power Tube Eliminator kit on their R1200R's?

I sumbled on this on the Nippy Normans' website.

It's basically a section of tube that replaces the power tube in the exhaust system. It claims to improve engine breathing and increase engine exhaust volume, but not to the extent that will attract the attention of the Feds.

The improvement in exhaust volume particularly appeals to me, as i feel safer on the roads when other road users can hear me.

What d'you think everyone

So you want to make it louder, but without any benefit to horsepower, etc? How about baseball cards taped to the spokes? :)

A large debate about loud pipes happened over at Reddit a few months ago. Personally I can't say I am in the camp of loud pipes = more safety, since there are so many things ahead on that list you should be doing before worrying about your pipe noise to increase your visibility ,etc.

We all love a good rumble, but I do hate it when I physically have to wince because of someone's pipes.

Worth a read though: A rational discussion on "Loud Pipes Save Lives." : motorcycles

Considering the risks to your hearing and also pissing off drivers. . .I like a quieter bike with a very loud horn (Stebel Nautilus) and Big Conspicuity. I've got a Kevlar Motorport jacket with reflector bands all around and a retina burning orange AGV FV140 helmet. I find that I get much more space from car drivers with this highly visible get-up.

I don't know about removing the "flap"
I agree with the many other things you can do for drivers to see you, loud horn, hi visibility gear like DrDave's pumpkin helmet, may be some (I know, ugly as a sin) extra lights like mine.
Personally I think that people who live in big cities, are not very perceptive of loud noises, think about it, there is always some extremely loud bike, most of the time harleys or super stport bikes, Some really loud car or someone listening to their radio LOUD, I mean you feel the vibration of their bass, there is also some kind of construction going on, helicopters everywhere, the subway noise it's not low or pleasant, some kind of siren, cops, ambulance, fire fighters......

We learn to live with this noises, and every time someone from out of town visits, they have to remind me of how loud the city is, we just get used and they become part of our white noise.

I feel way more safe, with those lights installed, they are great, specially at night, someone blasting their radio it's not going to listen to your pipes/horn, but will most likely see you braking, turning, coming.

I also have several feet of black reflective tape all over the bike, you can't see it until some light hist the bike.

Many members said and I agree, they are ugly, but that's why we ended up on a beemer, wear full face helmets, riding boots, specially designed for motorcycle riding pants and jacket, we are here to ride, and do it safely.

Leave that orange AGV at home Wednesday night Dave. Some Smashing Pumpkins JD will mistake you for a Jack-o-Lantern.
I'll have to check, Clem. Billy Horgan just opened a tea room (Madame Zuzu's) about 5 blocks from my home. Will let you know :)

Assume typo was Corgan. Yup. Your neck of the woods. Shave your head. Happy Halloween, Dave.
