You could check plug wire connections, make sure the coils are tight on the plugs if it sounds like a misfire - the smelly bit is due to the cold catalytic...

It's not cold related... I'm in SoCal and have it happen here too. I've been thinking about doing an intake calibration to see if that helps (as rumored here and elsewhere.)

ah I see - so when your bike does it - do you get the acrid smoke for a few seconds also ? [emoji3] mines hasn’t done it for a good few months now and it’s had its major rip off - eh I mean service with new plugs and filter etc

That's only happened to me once.
