Checked the valve clearances at 24 000 miles and am a bit concerned by the condition of the cams - no serious wear or flaking but there are some small spots about 0.1mm where the surface has flaked, a just detectable edge at the cam peak where the follower finger runs, and odd parallel marks on the lift ramps.
Not sure whether this is just what LC cams look like as they bed in - all the OHC engines I've ever worked on previously have had flat uniformly polished surfaces regardless of mileage.
It's not bad enough to do anything about it yet but just seems not right to me.
I'll check the condition of the lobes every oil change in the future.
