Where will the displacement race take us?
It's the same throughout the automotive industry - build something 'better' than the previous model in order to make your product more attractive compared to the opposition. Production racing categories used to set particular capacity boundaries, but they're not as relevant anymore..

The F800 engine is dry sump, with the reservoir integrated into the crankcase. So oil changes are just pull the sump plug and unscrew the filter, same as your 1200 Boxer. I’d be very surprised if the R13 was any different.

Good question, but I'm assuming metal weighs more than water, and a fully liquid cooled engine might use less metal?

Marginal, I’d reckon. If you take away the current cooling fins, you’d have about as much metal as you’d need to create a water jacket.

Their development bikes aren’t full spec models, and have no VIN, so they can’t be released to the public. Hence destruction.

I’d be hsppy to salvage some bits and bobs though …

Best we buy our dream bike if we don’t already have it before all the immature automated interventions come in and ruin our riding experience.

BMW went from industry worst display with the previous R1200R to industry best with the R1250R.
Bear in mind the R1200R had a 2013 technology display, which for them was pretty reasonable. I still like mine.

Traction control – very much overrated and often quite annoying.
I don’t mind traction control (DTC/ASC) but I fear the day I have to buy a bike with more ‘advanced’ rider aids that can’t simply and easily be switched off. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, blind spot avoidance …

Certainly looks da biz.

My fear is that by the time the Roadster version hits the shelves, it will be fitted with a whole suite of interventional rider ‘aids’ that can’t readily be disabled. I’m no Luddite but I’ve experienced car-based systems that are crude in their implementation, even on the more luxury brands. The I in AI is overstated in my view.

I fear what will put me off the R1300R will be the intrusive electronics and endless menu scrolling
That’s my fear. If I needed to update, I’d be tempted to go with a runout 1250 (or a good used one from someone who has to have the latest).
