As you may be aware, BMW has belatedly initiated a recall for certain R1200GS's due to several incidents where the fork stanchions failed and separated, basically breaking the forks off the bikes. I'm concerned about the implications for the R1200R. Does anyone know if the R1200R uses the same fork assembly as the R1200GS? I believe the recall affects 2013 to 2016 GS's.

Wow!
Now the infamous stanchion recall makes the rounds here as well.
BMW has acted appropriately and has globally offered a fix for all bikes built in a time frame of 5 years!
Only a handful of people had an issue, but it was completely blown out of proportion.
Unfortunately some BMW subsidiaries are not as easy to deal with than others. BMW Australia has been great, from all what I can hear.

It does surprise me though that riders of LC bikes don't know the difference between the conventional set up and the Telelever

Yeah we do know the difference :grin2: was easy for us to look at the OP's profile and see he had an LC.
On the subject of BMW acting appropriately, they initially denied responsibility and as per the video the accident victim got no sympathy from them, they didn't pay his medical costs or give him a new GS for instance, instead implying the bike was being used wrongly even though it was a mature rider traveling at only 45kph when his front end fell apart. I guess of course they weren't going to accept blame if they could get away with it but in the end they had to come to the party after exposure through the internet caused an outcry.

Harley Davidson tried the same sidestep when the "Harley death wobble" finally hit the news after an CHP cop was killed riding one, by that time they had already fobbed off numerous accident victims saying they were misusing their bikes. There's some vids on the tube of Ultraglides and road kings doing massive tankslappers - great entertainment!
