I would imagine it's reprogrammable, as I have two cars with fobs and it can be done with them. However, in my case the dealers want a small fortune to do that. There are a few locksmiths around with the codes, though, who will do it for about a third of the price. I don't know if BMW motorcycles will have shared these codes, so you may have to see a dealer to get it done.

 

I found this post for the RT. It sounds a bit too easy but I guess it is worth a try. It would be a bit different because of the different bike, but maybe it is similar.

at #3 where it is saying to wedge the fob in the instrument cluster, the R would be between the rider seat and pillion I believe.


So from what I gather. You start the bike. Put the new fob near the pillion and hold down the roundel button. Can't tell how long, but maybe 10 seconds?

Or try this guys method from same thread... Again instead of putting the fob near the instrument panel, put it by the pillion.

I brought the original radio fob into proximity to start the bike. I then removed the fob from proximity of the bike, which causes the yellow key/question mark caution light to illuminate on the warning panel. I then placed the new fob on the top ledge of the instrument panel (below GPS mount) and pressed the roundel. Within a few seconds the yellow key/question mark caution light disappeared, signaling completed programming of the new fob. Just to be certain, I shut down the engine and panel and then restarted with newly programmed fob. Success!

Anyways, like I said, it sounds to easy, but give it a try and let us know if it worked.

Sadly I have been unsuccessful with this. The key has been previously paired to a bike but I would think it wouldn't affect the key as the bike would adjust to 'read' the key as opposed to the bike modifying the key?

I believe the key fobs are encoded to a specific bike, and require dealer tools to be reprogrammed.
