As far as I'm concerned, this is very nice! Hopefully your setup is going to be trouble free in the long run, with all the extra bits.

We'll see! I have confidence in the Philips packs...reliable brand there. The lasfit H7, not so much, but at 20 for a set, easy come, easy go.I also tested Auxito, and the results were equally as good.

In the big schema of things, this is not really about expense, otherwise we would all ride something a lot less complicated :) It is about satisfying the itch, need to tinker with the bike, make it yours...

Bit of good news. The LED mod worked my entire ride to work this morning. The Philips pack for lowbeam was cool to the touch, with just a hint of warm. Gets enough airflow there to keep cool :)

Welp, mixed feelings on the results. Night ride last night with the Mrs. The high beam is fairly decent, but the low beam just doesn't get enough light on the road. The spread and pattern is good, cutoff good, but actual light or lumens downrage is unacceptable. I'm going to look at doing a lowbeam HID kit instead. Normally I would never do HID in a halogen reflector, but the cutoff is very sharp, so I'm going to give it a try.

Cheap amazon gunea pig HID kit on the way. Used the same brand before ****ing around with projectors in my xterra. Cheap, but bright enough for 40 bucks to determine if a 200 dollar morimoto kit is worth it.

All of this effort because BMW didn’t include an LED light on a twenty thousand $ motorcycle…

Yep. Kills me, it would've added...idk...economy of scale...40 or 80 bucks per bike probably? They already put them in as DRL. My last bike I bought an AWESOME headlight for 100 bucks from TRS. Perfect light. Oh well.

Just more info. Tried shorter LED bulbs, no benefit. Swapped for an HID, but was not impressed, plus all the extra parts. Currently waiting to hear back from Cyclops about one of their models that might fit under the cover.

Also I got extenders to make removal and testing easier: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQMSQVD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I now just have 2 pairs leaving the headlight assembly to the philips canbus packs :)

Also considering led pods to solve the issue, though having to do so irritates me.

I just adjusted my headlight slightly higher than it was before, and probably slightly higher that I should have, and the spreads has improved. I'm running a pair of Philips Diamond vision bulbs, and on low-light I do get an occasional signal from an oncoming car, probably indicating that my headlight is too bright/adjusted too high.

Considering I also have a pair of Denali D1 lights with hybrid lenses installed on the engine guards, this give me sufficient light. I would still prefer a clear flooded space that most car LEDs provide, however this is not really possible at this time.

I just can't leave well enough alone. Going to try a 55 watt CANBUS hid ballast (lowbeam). I am leaving the setup for the high beam as it's fantastic at night. Just want better low beam. I may also try the aftermarket chinese import headlight next spring and see if I can either use it as is, or adapt it.

Ok I apologize for the long delay, but I just tried the parts I purchased and success! I have a working HID lowbeam, no error (when bike running). I’m going to actually swap the bulb into the headlight assembly this weekend and report back on output and beam pattern.

My low-beam Phillips Diamond Vision H7 halogen just burned-out this morning, after about 7 thousand miles, around 12 moths. Checked Amazon, still no promising CANBUS H7 bulb options that would fit on r12**r bikes.

Here's the HID kit that works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q4V9DT9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with bulbs Amazon.com: HYB H7 6000K HID Blub Xenon Headlight Replacement Bulbs Light White (Pack of 2) : Automotive

I have yet to fully install, but I had this directly on the lowbeam circuit (without the philips resistor pack), and with the bike running the bulb out error was not present. I did see it a bit when the bike was off, but I get that with the LED setup too.
Looks farily large. I wonder how it will all fit on the bike...

There's room to either side of the middle steering post thingy, and that's where I had put the phillips packs. The ballast is very thin, so I can put that there, and I am going to try to put the ingniter there too. I put extenders on my wiring going in/out, so it's easier for me.

Ok, well test finished. Short answer: yes, much more light. Long answer: not feasible. Way, way too awful for anyone that would be oncoming. The glare off the HID bulb is just far too pronounced, so I will not be making the swap. I stood in front by the garage door and looking toward the bike was pretty bad. It's also throwing light high (so called squirrel spotters), excessively. Also, because this HID kit includes a canbus decoder, there just isn't going to be enough space to tuck the components nicely. I've put things back to the H7 led bulbs and phillips packs. I will look for an H7 that has a higher wattage rating, as high as I can find. In the meantime if anyone knows where I can get one of the aliexpress type LED aftermarket assemblies for less than 400 let me know.

Question about the canbus error "exterminator"... Is it necessary for security/safety/overhead or only to eliminate the error?

I currently have the r1250r and get the canbus bulb error, but can quit it.

I don't have the security system, but from what I can tell it is only to eliminate the error or the gauge cluster (and show the clock).

@daniel, it’s simply to get rid of the warning. The bike thinks there’s a faulty bulb due to lower than expected current draw.
